Fear Not Computers Environmental Practices
Fear Not Computers is committed to using only top quality components in our systems. To that end we purchase RoHS certified components whenever possible, and build systems using certified 80%+ efficiency power supplies to reduce energy consumption.* (asterisk for footnote about non-standard 80+ and premium pricing)
Cardboard, bubble wrap, plastics and polystyrene packing materials are stored at our facility for re-use in return shipments, or are provided to clients who will re-use the materials.
Shipping materials no longer suitable for use are recycled through municipal programs, to the extent those programs allow.
Fear Not Computers works with partner organizations to recycle electronic waste. Clients may dispose of old computers, regardless of functionality, by having one of our representatives take the product away at the end of a service call. Recycling pick-up is also available by appointment, though a fee may be applied.
Systems that are new enough, generally less than 5 years old, are refurbished for donation to various charity organizations. Clients with a large number of systems that fit this description share in the tax benefits of this donation.
Systems that are no longer viable due to age or damage are recycled through a local recycling firm that maintains a zero landfill guarantee. A small fee is normally applied for this service.
Recycling of non-computer related electronics can also be arranged for a fee.
